First Appearance of the Incredible Hulk
A majority of super hero characters make their debut in another comic book series, rather than starting out with their own issue. The Incredible Hulk was a rare exception, with Stan Lee and Jim Kirby being very confident and deciding to make the Incredible Hulk's first appearance in his own comic series. The Hulk's first comic book appearance was "The Incredible Hulk #1" from Marvel Comics. The Hulk's debut comic was first released in 1962 and is currently valued at more than $21,000.
In the first issue the Hulk was actually grey because the writing group behind the comic wanted to use a color that did not suggest any particular ethnic group. Colorist Stan Goldberg, then made a suggestion to Stan Lee to change the Hulk's colors as they could not regulate a consistent color for every comic, since the coloring technology at the time was lacking. Starting in the second issue, the Incredible Hulk's skin color would then be green.
The original Hulk series was canceled after six issues, with the final cover-dated comic in March 1963. Once the series ended, the Hulk made a quick comeback and appeared in The Fantastic Four series and months later became a founding member of the Avengers.
